Injury Risks From Slip and Fall Accidents
Injury Risks From Slip and Fall Accidents
After speaking with a slip and fall lawyer we have started to really see the importance of this area of personal injury law, especially for business. Many of us think that these slip and fall cases are against local governments or private citizens but the reality is in fact very different. It is imperative that employers have a high focus on their behaviors and the way that they operate with regards to making the workplace as safe as possible. Slips and falls can result in minor injuries of course, but some of the cases we have seen show that injuries can in fact be so much more severe. When we consider that the worse the injury, the higher the damages, we begin to understand exactly why safety is so important. Here then, are just some of the injuries which can be sustained.
Mental and Emotional Injuries
Before we get into the physical injuries which could be sustained, it is important to bear in mind the emotional and mental difficulties which someone who has been injured could have. This often makes up for a large amount of the damages which legal teams will seek for an injured client. This can be difficult to quantify but there is no doubt that many people struggle with confidence and anxiety following such an event.
Broken Bones
Broken bones are very common when it comes to slips and falls and this often happens to shoulders and to arms, as the victim looks to break their fall. Broken bones can heal quite quickly but there is still a very real level of emotional turmoil and physical pain once a bone has been broken in this way. Very often we see bones broken when people slip on wet floors.
Sprains and Twists
The most common injury which we see in these cases are ankle twists and sprains, or twisted knees. Again this is often because we have not prepared ourselves for the sudden movement which a trip or fall brings, and that is what results in the muscles and ligaments being twisted in this way.
Back Problems
Because of the importance of our backs in terms of mobility, this is a very sensitive area and one which can easily get injured when it comes to a fall of this type. Injuries to vertebrae, discs and the spinal chord can easily happen in these slips and falls and the damage which this can do could in fact be life altering.
Head Injuries
If the head is impacted as a result of the incident then victims run the risk of a TBI, which stands for traumatic brain injury. The severity of these vary from light concussion to long term damage which can deeply impact the victim. In some severe cases we see people with a TBI suffer from seizures and even loss of certain brain functions.
As you can see, this is not something which employers can take lightly.
